Finally after living in my small town for 6 months, my sweetie and I finally go on a date in town. It seems we've been traveling to go out for dinner, but on this night we stayed in town.. and went to......

wait for it......

Chili's! I know, very anti climactic, but sadly it's rated as the best Mexican food here. Anyway, that is where we went. And it's not about the place but the conversation, which was wonderful. At the thought of adult conversation, I got excited, and dressed!

So today's (tonight's) outfit includes:

J crew v-neck cashmere cardigan
J crew Tissue Tulle and Jewel Tank
J crew matchstick jeans
Tortoise platform pumps my Chinese Laundry
and Chili lipstick by MAC

I add the lipstick because (my mom) thought I needed more color and the red lips actually look good I think. I included them in the photo.

OKC Dr. Appt and JC shopping with IRL pics

How's that for a title!? So I'm a little rusty, but I am blogging. This past Thurs, I had to take my little one to "the city" for a flu shot. (I just think it's sad that "the city" is not NYC, but OKC, but such is my plight). Anyway, here is my OOTD for or trip and some IRL pics of what we found at the local B&M J. Crew.

Outfit consists of:

J.Crew Unisex Saint James Meridien II nautical tee
J crew Ankle Stretch toothpick jean
J. Crew Solid Lieutenant Jacket
Kerrington Metallic Ballet flats
J crew Neon leather belt

The above is actually two pictures of the same outfit. One taken at home, but I thought the light was kinda weird, the other taken in the dressing room. I actually really like this outfit. I put it together for my Chicago trip, then forgot it. So it gets pulled out for today. What do you think?

Now for shopping. First pic is the Dream zip Henley in Heirloom pink. (item 31359) This is an XS and I thought it fit small. The arms were tight and felt constrictive.

I really liked the zip shawl collar. I thought is looked warm and toasty. With the extra 25% they were having that day, I did purchase this sweater, but in a small.

The next shirt, I am not quite sure about the item name or number. My receipt says FTHR CTN RUCHED TRIM SCOOP T, I am guessing that means Feathered Cotton Ruched Trim Scoop neck tee. I would have guessed a tissue tee as it was very thin. I think it looked good under the sweater. It also fit small. I usually buy xs in JC T's but with this one I also purchased a small.

Next is the Tissue Cover stitch Tux Henley. I really liked how this looked. I think it will look really cute under a jacket or cardi. It fit TTS and I purchased a xs.

Here is a closeup for the detail of the tux part. Very cute. I would have purchased more colors, but this was the only color they had in my size.

Next the Vintage cotton bead shell. The store only had the grey, and I have enough neutrals in my closet, so this was a pass for me, but I really liked the shell. It was a good weight, not too thin and I think would look good layered or alone.

Nest this the feather T. I liked this one, but did not get it. It was still $24.99 and I did not like it that much at the store to pull the trigger on this one. It too is a nice weight and the scoop is not too low. Scoops are usually too low on me, so I usually pass on them.

And there is my shopping partner, my Gigi Belle. She thinks mommy is hilarious shopping.

Next is the Tissue Tulle and Jewel Tank. I liked this one. Also not too low. I liked the weight of the material and the feel of a more combed cotton. This was on AWESOME promo. Originally $55, I got this for $7.49. No brainer.

I also got some ankle socks and a Two Tone dot scarf. I wish I had a pick if the scarf, but I can't find one.

Overall, I am quite content. How is your shopping?

Finally hitting my stride and able to blog!

Middle of the week can be tricky. My little one still needs a morning nap so sometimes we do not go out, but today, all things work together and we made it our.

The weather here is beautiful. Clear and cool and a bit windy. So I did not want to do too many layers, thus the sweater with a shell.

J.Crew - Arrow sweater-jacket - in heathered elm

I love the sweater jacket, esp. the large label and pockets. I feel its a little bit retro and a little bit trendy. It is a nice heavy weight and looks good with jeans.

The ruffle shell makes for a good layer and I like the contrast with the colors.

I am pleased.

First Day of MDO by dottedy featuring J.Crew - Metalic Beach Cardigan

Today was the first day of MDO (Mothers Day Out), and I took my 3-y-o and then met another mom for coffee. The weather here in SW OK (southwest Oklahoma) is getting cooler. Tropical Storm Hermine passed our way yesterday so the weather was humid and damp......kinda like a beach!

So my newest purchases, the beach cardi and the skimmer pants from my most consistent obsession J. Crew.

The Metallic Beach Cardi in a lot more striking in person. The gold flecks really come to life.

On my PV set, the colors seem more subtle and therefore I think blend more, but in RL the cardi really pops with gold flecks. White is the most neutral I can get, and I added the pink/mauve belt because I loved how the olive skimmer pants made it pop.

Sandals are from Calvin Klein, gold. I got them for $10 at Marshals! Hooray for Labor Day sales!

PV to Real Life - Olivia Shift Dress

How do you chase babies, run errands, be comfortable and look nice doing it? That is my question daily. Some days are better than others, but mostly I find that if I have to leave the house I will try a little harder....I guess because more people than my children will be seeing me, so I might as well look nice.

Well today we left the house, so here's my attempt at the near impossible.

This is the Olivia Shift dress. The color is very drab and an in store only as I did not see it on line. So to add a little bit of color I added the rosette pins and the firework necklaces.

The shoes are a metallic gladiator style sandals by Madden Girl called bungalow.

I love love love that gladiators are in style this season. I hope they stay. I just really like the way they look and they have almost cured me from my flip flop addiction.

Hear me...flip flops are for the beach. If you don't want to look like a frump, start with shoes.

Sunday Whites - Finally an update!

Did you miss me? Thanks for sticking around. I will post more often now.....promise!

I've been shopping galore, but on "mom clothes." No, you don't have to be a frump to be a mom, and NO, mom clothes aren't all frumpy. And Hell NO, I did not buy mom jeans.

But, I've been busy at home, in a new house, in a new town, and not with a whole lot of time to blog. But it's Sunday and the babies are sleeping and now is my chance.

Today I opted for all white with a pop of color as a layering piece. It's blazing hot here in OK, but then again, i understand its pretty much hot every where these days.

No necklace as I have a chunky cuff bracelet and big earrings, I did not wanted to be too overstated, plus I carry a baby on the hip and do not need to give her any more things to pull. She LOVES jewelry.

The shoes are JC, strappy metallic wooden heels, not too high, but not the best from running.
The pants are NOT JC Cafe capis as stated. They are from BR are are more a boot cut fit. Now that I see them on, I can see how these are going the way of the do-do....

So what do you think for my first time back?

Ann Taylor Loft vs. J Crew: Which should I get?

It was a beatiful day today. Gorgeous! So baby Gigi and I went to an outside mall and shopped. It was great to get some fresh air and shop at the same time

At first I knew exactly what I wanted to purchase: the Caprice jacket. So I found my size and happily went all my way. I shop quick when baby is with me, you can see her in the first pic....isn't she beautiful.

While walking the open mall, I went into an Ann Taylor Loft and found a similair jacket. Now, I am confused. Which should I get?

The Ann Taylor jacket is more cropped with pleats on the front and back. $98
The J Crew jacket is longer with more sheen and patch pockets. S138

Give away, update and styling the JCrew Tissue Garland Tank

The following is from my shopping in late January. I saw this styling of the Tissue Garland Tank on a mannequin and I just had to copy. Layered under a Henley with the ruffles peaking out, I loved it.

So I've layered the tank under the Mandarin Henley perfect shirt, and I'm wearing them with dark hip slung jeans. The outfit is VERY easy. Basically I'm wearing t-shirts with jeans, but I think I look like I dressed on purpose.

New J Crew B&M only items

Fashion in my life is not completely dead....I'm here, just busy.
If your interested in hearing about my non-fashion life, Click Here, otherwise here is my most recent buys from my favorite obsession, J crew.

Although I have searched multiple times on the Jcrew website, I have yet to find these items. I guess they are in store only.

But I really like them. In the description the shirt is a perfect shirt. It is blue with tiny blue flowers with little red berries here and there. It fits like the traditional perfect shirt, and the current craze of the Suckered Gingham perfect shirt. But it's likely I'll be moving to a small town and I just can't wear gingham. In a big city, gingham is trendy, in a small town, gingham is a cliche'.

The sweater is called a merino yoga sweater. It seems very similar to the Anton sweater of last season but without the button closure. It is soft merino and flowey with an A-line and easy drape.

The jeans are destroyed slim fit jeans, that are now too big...boo. I love them, they are so comfortable, but now that they are too big, I think they look sloppy.

The shoes are my November shoes from my year of shoes. They are ME TOO, I got them from DSW, and they are super comfortable.

It's rainy and cold today in south Texas. My mom is here to see her grand-babies, so I have a little free time for lunch with some co-workers. I am inspired by all the fun layers in the current J. Crew catalog. So, because it's so cold, I just kept adding layers until I was warm.

Of course, I opted for a button down for easy access to the girls although I did not not need it, it seems all my outfits currently need to be nursing mom friendly.

I like the way the colors on top turned out, but I not thrilled with the pants. My current anti-allergen diet has worked a little too well and my pants seems a but big in these pictures. I think it would look better with heels rather than flats and maybe a bt of alternations. But I won't bother, because the second I can have a cheeseburger and shake, I am going for it, so I'll gain back this weight! :)

This outfit is relatively simple, but thus the life of the SAHM. Another chino's and tee outfit, but the point is, I don't look like a frump.

The perfect fit tee is flattering, although I think it might be a little too wide of a scoop neck, I feel too exposed....I know, I'm neurotic.

The cropped chino is way too easy, and one can get stuck in a rut of having too many cropped pants in thier closet. All you really have to do is concentrate on the waist. I feel like all granny's entire "trendy" wardrobe consists of capri pants.

Flats are my new staple, although I miss heels, and I will wear them soon.

Finally the necklace adds that little pop of color we all need.

My new favorite outfit.

After Christmas, I shopped for things I could wear at home and out, things that are not too fussy, but also far far far from frumpy. This week, I've been trying outfits and I think I have a winner.

Essentially this is a t-shirt and chinos with a cardigan for layering, but I love how it fit together.
The Tee is embellished with sequins, the chinos are straight leg to give me a long leg line and the cardigan is v-neck with a ruffle detail. I love it....and it all fits.

This morning, when I dropped my son off at school, his teacher asked if I'd gone back to work because I look so nice! Love that! I am wearing the most comfortable outfit, but I could pull it off for work.

I think Stacey and Clinton would be proud. No sweats for this mom.....at least not today.

Catalog inspired outfit

After scanning my current J. Crew catalog, I thought I would try to recreate the outfit based on what I have in my closet and some new purchases.

Now that I have created this collage, I realize it is a BAD idea to put a picture of me next to a 6 foot, 90 pound model. Wow do my legs look stubby! For the record, I'm only 5'3" and 115lbs.

I am using the Minnie pant in navy, just like the model, but that is where the exact matches end and I improvise the rest.

I added a plain white oxford shirt over the ruffles and roses tissue tank in a soft pink. Instead of the blue belt, I use the roughed out leather belt in a brown leather.

I am usually chasing a toddler, so flats are more my style, especially during the day, so I am wearing toe-capped flats from Spain, which are very similar to the J.crew Abby flats.

What I love about J. Crew, is the the way they layer and have wonderful layering ideas. So here's my look.

Ruffled Carly dress - j crew

So I ventured to my local J. Crew B & M, to spend some Christmas money....and it was EMPTY!

Really, there were bare walls. It was so sad. They did however have the Ruffled Carly dress in a store only color. I believe this is called dark slate.

This is a size 0, which I do not believe I should be able to fit into yet, but the dress, I think, runs large. I added a metallic belt to add some shape, but my hubby liked it without the belt too.

I like the dress. I like that is has buttons down the front. Easy access for a nursing mom. I usually don't get to wear dresses because baby is always hungry, but this works, especially for a spring cotton dress.

The dress is flattering for me and fits. I do not mind the length, I think it will look adorable with flat strappy sandals, or I could dress it up for evening out (not that I've had one, yet). It is in bad need of a steamer and I am concerned that the back will be very wrinkled after I sit for a bit.

I did not get it. I felt weird about buying the only new thing in the store. I am going to wait until the 28th when the sales associate told me they would have their new spring shipment. If the new color comes in, I'll try that on, or if there is something else fabulous, I might get something that.

For now, this is a definite maybe.

Where have I been? Well it seems I've been away but I have still be shopping. This Christmas was our first Christmas to go back to our home town with our new little family of four, so I immediately thought," Oh, what will I wear?!"

As a mom of a new born, I have the body of a a mom of a newborn...so I wanted to wear things that would camouflage my baby belly and accentuate my beautiful new nursing breasts!

Last Day of work before Baby

Today is my LAST day of work before baby! Can you believe it! I've got one week remaining in my baby wait game. By this time next week, I'll have baby Gianna (Gigi)! I know, I should be nesting...

..but instead, I'm working. Boo.

But today is my last day.....so I thought I would post my big-mama outfit. Nothing fits right now......nothing! I need to wear a mui mui.

The shirt is too big in the bodice...it makes my boobs look HUGE!, but it does cover the belly, which is a good thing. I add a J Crew long cardi to add some layering for the cooler weather.

The pants are from old navy....my staple khaki pants I've worn all season.

The shoes are my Spanish April shoes.

This weekend, I am going to shop.....yes, I know it will be awhile before I am able to fit in any purchases....but these can be my motivational pieces...plus who can resist a coupon and invitation from J. Crew.

That is, if baby does not come this evening.....you never know.

Skinny Jeans and September shoes! (Maternity)

Wearing Sunday 9-27-09 by dottedy featuring GAP

I got less than 30 days to go. Now when she comes, we do not know, but if I make it to the 28th of Oct., we are going to go get her!

With that said, things are beginning to not fit....I am not shopping....NO I CANT.... although I really want to, I am abstaining from shopping. She can come anytime, so I am not shopping for maternity clothes, even if that means wearing the same things over and over because they are the only things that fit!

With that said, I CAN shop for shoes! If you recall my hubby lost a dangerous bet during Christmas, and I get to buy new shoes each month for a year. Read about it in this post. This month I actually did buy shoes, as the last two months I've purchased jewelry.

The shoes are from Liz Claiborne. They are a calf hair, VERY similar to the Jcrew Betsey printed calf-hair wedges from 08. They are EXTREMELY comfortable. They are as comfortable as flats. I can see myself even chasing a toddler in them.

The rest of the outfit is casual for a Sunday around town. Who knew they made skinny jeans for pregnant women. I think I look great, however, my belly is so big, I found myself often pulling them up as my belly pushed them down.

Both top and cardi are from Gap Maternity, I've paired together the Floral Linen ruffle top (item # 636656) and the cut-away cardigan.

Do high heels empower or oppress women?

Another Today Show article that I thought was interesting. Do heels empower or oppress us.
I am of the opinion that they empower us....I always look better in heels and feel better too.

OK, ladies, think fast: Do high heels empower women in the workplace, or do
they oppress us and ultimately harm us?

If your gut is giving you conflicting responses to that question, don’t worry
— that’s normal. Depending on whom you consult, you could hear that towering footwear:

can boost your career by transforming you into a confident, strident force to be reckoned with;

can hamper your career by putting too much emphasis on your sex appeal rather than your brains;

can wreak permanent damage on your feet and ankles, including — but not limited to — bunions, corns, calluses, shortening of the Achilles tendon, ankle fractures and nerve damage, and

can improve your sex life because the act of wearing them makes you feel sexy and strengthens core abdominal and pelvic muscles at the same time.

Hmmm! Considering that all of the above may be valid, what’s a working woman who isn’t Carrie Bradshaw from “Sex and the City” to do?

A wide range of experts — from podiatrists to fashionistas to career gurus to anthropologists — agree on at least this one bit of advice for women: Tread carefully.

Lea Goldman, features editor for Marie Claire magazine, told TODAY she’s utterly convinced that high heels can empower women at work. She said they help women look and feel confident and self-assured, and they also help them stand out from the pack.

“I don’t care where you work, the office is a competitive arena,” Goldman said. “And the fact of the matter is that most offices are run by men — not exclusively, but mostly. I believe that heels give you an important physiological advantage in that they bring you eye level to male superiors. Don’t underestimate that ‘leg up.’ ”

But even Goldman acknowledged that this fashion statement has its limits.

“The line gets crossed at stilettos,” she said. “In most traditional workplaces they are simply a fashion NO. ...

“Heels that are too high send the worst kind of image to bosses and colleagues: tawdry. It takes your colleagues uncomfortable. It makes you look cheap. Look around to the woman you most admire at work. Unless you work at the Bunny Ranch, I promise you she’s not wearing stilettos.”

Dr. Helen Fisher, an anthropology professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey, is in the camp of those who think that sky-high heels are just too sexy for most workplaces.

“High heels thrust out the buttocks and arch the back into a natural mammalian courting — actually, copulatory — pose called ‘lordosis,’” Fisher said. “Rats do it, sheep do it ... lions do it, dogs do it. ... It is a naturally sexy posture that men immediately see as sexual readiness. [Heels] are a ‘come hither’ signal. ...

“When women wear high heels at work, they send sexual signals that should be avoided if they want to be taken seriously.”

A symbol in transition?

For decades, feminists and supporters of equality in the workplace have similarly advised women to avoid anything that might reduce them to mere sexual objects. However, in a recent article in the British newspaper the Daily Mail, writer Maureen Rice argued that women have been able to turn the tables when it comes to high heels.

“Heels may be inextricably linked with sex — and they are sexy — but over the past 10 years or so women have reclaimed them as symbols of female power, not subjugation,” Rice wrote.

“The best careers advice I’ve ever had came a few years ago from my female boss. ‘Whenever you know you are going to have a challenging meeting,’ she said, ‘and especially if that meeting is mainly with men, wear high heels.’ She wasn’t being flippant — she was right.”

Likewise, Goldman of Marie Claire magazine made the case at stubbornly comfy shoes in the workplace indicate a woman isn’t a go-getter.

“Take a look around — you rarely see women in power strutting around in ballet flats,” Goldman said. “Even their ‘flats’ have a small heel of some kind. Flats scream either demure or comfortable. Neither is an image you want to project at work.”

But what if you’re just someone who wants to look nice at work and also wants to avoid agony? After all, the pain and suffering endured by high-heel-wearing women is so common that recent quips about it on “The DailyShow with Jon Stewart” elicited howls of laughter from the studio audience.

Women are “fashion slaves to the man,” contributor Kristen Schaal told Stewart during the segment. “Why else would we cram our feet into high heels, causing permanent damage, just to bring our butt and our boobs 3 inches closer to your eye level?

“By the way, quick tip, ladies: I find that if I have a formal dance to go to, the best way to alleviate some of that discomfort is to remove your big and little toe and cram it right in. Keep those shoes coming, Jimmy Choo! I’d hate to think cutting off those toes was a mistake!”

Loving your feet and your career.

Actually, plenty of reasonable compromises exist for women who want to avoid lasting damage to their feet. It may sound obvious, but fashion experts and foot doctors recommend finding attractive shoes with slightly shorter heels.

The official position of the American Podiatric Medical Association is that anything higher than 2 inches is medically unsound; podiatric surgeon Dr. Suzanne Levine recently told TODAY that 2½ inches can be OK.

“The ideal heel height to wear for eight to 10 hours a day is about 2½ inches,” Levine said. “It is a good height. And then you can splurge. You can wear 4-inch heels when you go out for dinner.”

Other tricks for saving your feet include:

Wearing sneakers or comfortable flats while walking to and from your
destination, then switching to high heels only after you arrive.

Wearing high heels that fit well — meaning that they aren’t too tight or
they don’t have a big gap in the back after your feet slide forward in the
shoe.

Wearing a chunkier or thicker heel to improve balance and stability.

Wearing open-toed heels to take at least some pressure off of your toes.

Cushioning the bottom of your feet with products such as full-shoe inserts
or silicone metatarsal pads.

“You really have to pamper your feet and take care of your feet,” Levine
advised.

This story was on the Today show website. I enjoy the Today show and watch it when I might happen to have a day off....but right now I only look online.

Anyway, this story is of one fashionista that wore the same Little Black Dress, 31 different ways over one month. Amazing. A lot of her looks are similar, but they are different.

It think this is a great way to re-invent the wardrobe, especially if we are "shopping our closets."

Wearing Today 9-22-09 by dottedy featuring J Crew

It only seems fitting that the first day of fall in South Texas, it would rain. I did not get a chance to take an IRL pic this morning as I was running to avoid the traffic of those who forgot what rain is and therefore forgot how to drive in it. I'll take one tonight and post tomorrow, but wanted to post today....on this first day of fall. I am so glad the cool weather has arrived.

Well at 34 weeks my clothes are not fitting in even a faster pace than I imagined. This dress is a perfect answer to that problem. That Gap Cross-front tie-sash dress in true black is soft flowey and oh so comfortable on my ever growing belly.

Today I am also wearing my new Juliets in Bright Peacock. I Love these shoes! I do..these are the most comfortable heels I own....that's why I now own 2 pair.

The sweater is J crew, Cashmere V-neck, 3/4 length sleeve in an olive color. The cool of the day warranted a cashmere sweater and from the suggestion of a reader...I've gone with a yellow to off set my shoes.

Over all, I say that I coming along slowly. The days are both slow and fast.

The only thing about my recent dress kick is I still have to shave my legs and those are getting harder to reach!

Anyway, I love the contrast of the necklace against the dark purple of the dress.

Gap Maternity Shopping by dottedy featuring GAP

I've got six weeks left in this my second pregnancy, and my clothes are beginning not to fit. If fact, my adorable two year old picked out a shirt for me to wear on Sunday.....and it didn't fit. The remainder of day he repeated over and over again (as 2-year-olds do), "red shirt, no fit." He's adorable and will make an excellent big brother.

Anyway, so yesterday, I stopped by Gap Maternity on my way home and tried on a plethora of items to purchase for my remaining 6 weeks. What follows are the IRL pics of 8 month preggers lady.

Really I was looking for maternity trouser jeans I could wear to work and home....but alas...well you'll see.

This first pic is Full Panel Long & Lean Jeans (item ##582469). These are a size 2 and are way too tight around the belly. Even so, the back was too baggy and made my butt look long and frumpy, so a pass for me. As I could have sized up for the belly fit, we all know a saggy bottom, means they don't fit, even if they fit around the waist, well in my case belly.

The second (and last) pair I tried were the Semi Demi Panel Trouser Jeans in a dark wash (item #636973). These were the jeans that I originally came in to purchase. They are SUPER long! Even in heels they drag the floors. The SA told me I could order online, but not get the sale price. So I could pay for alterations, or pay the difference online. Granted, if these were PERFECT jeans that I could wear for year, I would have done it. But since these are maternity jeans, I'll wear for 6 weeks (4-5 times),....they were a pass. Bummer.

So I moved on to dresses. At this point, dresses are the easiest. I have grown out of shirts and pants seem to bind, rather than support, so dresses are the east alternative. One-piece, pullover, non-restrictive, full coverage....all make for a non-frump easy outfit.

This first dress is the Cross-front Tie-Sash Dress (item #651224). The material is soft jersey material that flows easily. Although you can't see it in the pic, the bodice crosses in the front with ties that wrap around to the back. I think I can dress this both up and down. It looked good with my Pumpkin Juliets....I think it'll look great with my Bright Peacock Juliets too.

The next dress was the Lace-trim Empire Dress (item #651222). I actually tried this dress on about a 2 months back and it was a pass because it was a shapeless sheath, BUT NOW that I'm 8-months pregnant, it actually fits around the belly and even gives me a somewhat of a waist!

Empire waist and lace trim is a nice touch, plus I think they look GREAT with my pumpkin heels....

The dress looks too short for the model online, but it fits my short stature well.

So two for two so far in dresses....but that is where my successes ended.

This next dress is the Seamed Tank Dress (item #664201). The dress looks adorable online, but the material is too stiff IRL. It does not fall very fluid, and feels quite constraining. I really wanted this dress for a pool party...but it just did not work for me.

These next two dresses are the Wrap-Style Dress, one in print and one solid. I tried on the print one first. I think I look giant! I actually think the print of the dress makes me look more round. Not for me.

So then I tried on the solid in the olive green. I like the color and the cotton canvas material makes it very soft, but I had issues with the fit. Due to my very high belly, the wrap-tie of the dress falls just under my bust and is too high for the natural fall of the dress. This creates a gap at the bodice and an eye full of my gorgeous pregnant breasts...not that I'm gonna show them.

So this is a pass.

Finally I tried on the Ruched Poppy-Print Dress (item #651232) in new shadow which is grey print. No, No No no....the material is too thin. They dress fits too close to the belly (i could have sized up). But even with sizing up, I'm not going to buy a maternity slip for a cotton maternity dress. I'm not a big fan of the print either...,looks like an altered mu mu.

So I left with two dresses....And I'm done.

No more shopping for me until after baby, and I am saving my pennies for J.Crew!

Saturday Wedding and Date Night

Summer wedding by dottedy featuring GAP

This weekend I went to a day-time wedding. It was a busy weekend, so I am just now posting what I wore. That night was date night with the hubby, so seeing that this outfit was for multiple events, I thought I'd share it with you.

It seems like the last summer wedding for the 2009 season has come and gone, seeing as Sept 22nd is quickly approaching. It will not be cool here in S. Texas till October, but fall is coming.

To the wedding I wore Gap Maternity Long linen-blend madras dress and 3/4-sleeve cutaway cardigan. I really like how the bolero cut of the cardigan emphasized my belly, but not in a overt way...Yes, I'm pregnant, but I think it also draws the eyes up...towards my face.

Shoes are from Kenny loves Penny from DSW. They are a metallic gladiator style. I kept the jewelery simple with stub earrings and 3-stone necklace. I was comfortable....which can be a bad word in maternity wear...but I was fashion conscious too.

Fireworks Necklace

This necklace arrived last week, I just haven't had the time to post. I LOVE it! I think it is gorgeous and makes my maternity outfit!

I like that the chain can be adjusted, so I cam make it appear as almost a choker OR it can hang lower.

With some of these very chunky necklaces, I think you almost have to be "flat chested" for them to hang right. This used to be me, but now I have these wonderful pregnancy breasts (boobs) and the chunky necklaces seem to fall in my cleavage and don't seem to hang as effortlessly as they do with the flat chested models in the catalog.

With that said, I can pin this necklace up and have it hang above my chest, flat.

The top and cardi I've worn before in this post , with other jewelry and different shoes.

The strapless top is from A'gaci, and long cardi from J Crew. The top is NOT maternity...but a couple years ago the umpire waist was VERY in and I took advantage. The top has lots of extra material and beautiful drape. I also really like the vertical stripes....The colors are fun and go great with my new necklace. The pants are a basic Khaki staple in a cotton stretch.

The shoes are Ann Taylor Loft, I bought them on a fantastic sale....I was concerned about the color when I got them...but now I love them...especially for fall.

GapMaternity: Stretch oxford shirt - Work Essential??

I'm still working and still trying to look professional. On the Gap website, this shirt was listed under "Work Essentials." But now that I have it, I'm not so sure.

I feel like I'm wearing a tent. It needs more form. This is a small, I thought about getting an XS, but I still have 2 months to go and did not want to stretch the material....to an unflattering fit.

I feel like, I'm wearing my boyfriend's shirt...or I am a pregnant 50's bobby-socker. But you can't really tuck this shirt in....how would that look?

So to dress up this look, I had the desert bauble necklace by Jcrew and Juliet pumps in Pumpkin, also by Jcrew. And my favorite.

(On a side note, I am desperately looking for the Juliet's in Peacock...)

Pants are from Mimi maternity...basic low-cut black stretch wool pants.

What do you think? Too shapeless, or OK for the office.

Long Cardi - Not for short and round

This is me pregnant about a month ago, so I am not quite as big as I am now....but the outfit is still in play...all the way to the end, and I thought I would share it with you.

The Cami, is non-maternity, J.Crew pink Cherie Cami. With so much extra material, it can easily cover the belly.

In the first two pics, I am wearing the J.Crew Michelle cardigan in Warm Blush....in the third pic, I am wearing a short leave long cardi from Banana Republic. I must admit the J.Crew Cardi is a better fit, because it is shorter and is more fitted. I feel like the very long cardi makes a short, pregnant woman look that mush shorter and rounder.

Pants are both from Pea in the Pod. The first is a basic stretch chino, the second is a wide leg chino, both khaki in color and a must have in the preggers wardrobe.

Jewelry is Venetian Glass from Jerrod's...an anniversary gift from the hubby 4 years ago.

Shoes in first pic are t-straps from J. Crew. I really love these shoes. They are hot pink patent leather. I got them in 06 and have worn them so much I wore out the heel. But I love them so much, I recently sent them to a shoe repair to have the heel replaced. J.crew makes excellent quality shoes and for the price, it's worth repairing.

The second pair of shoes are bow flats from DSW. They are super comfortable and just structured enough, not too be frumpy.

PV to Real Life - Basic Black

Back to work after a long weekend. Work has been crazy, crazy, crazy...and I really enjoy it....too bad I'll be leaving in 8 weeks....for good. Hmmmmm.

It's extremely hot here South Texas. I would really like to try Colorado for a while....layered looks! What's that like?

Anywho, today I am thinking cool and classic. And really at 32 weeks, not much fits...and I am HOT all the time! So, I looked for a very light and airy Tee....I know, a tee for work can be a very BAD idea. But it's the day after holiday and I have no meetings, so I am keeping it very simple.

Tee is Gap Maternity, as are the khaki pants....my go-store this time around.

The shoes are Miss Callaghan from my Spain trip. They are Super comfortable and dressy too.

Finally, the piece that brings it all together is a natural stone necklace I got from a local artist.

Erkel Pants - Being fashionable and round

This is what happens when old men's' beer gut get too big too, they have to wear their pants OVER the belly, so their pants don't fall down. Well maybe it's not that bad...but it feels that way.

These pants solve the problem of the sagging under the belly pants. They fir OVER the belly and therefore stay put.....aren't they lovely.

I SO want to shop the BEAUTIFUL J. Crew fall collection.....but it makes no sense. I have a little over 2 months to go....then there's that fun time of the 4th trimester.....you know, where I try to fit BACK into my old clothes....or at least old shape.

Sigh....

In my continuous effort to keep cool, I'm venturing for sleeveless in the office today. Not that sleeveless is such a bad thing, but it tends to makes outfits less formal and more casual. Also...as much as I appreciate layering, it is just not possible right now.

So my layering today consists of pearls! Three-strand pearl necklace and three different pearl bracelets.

The top is from Destination Maternity. It is great for this hot weather, light cotton with tie back and sleeveless. The pants are also for DM, I really like them because they fit under the belly, and therefore less layering for more "air conditioning."

Shoes are J crew leather T- strap. Pearls are from Target, and some I had in my jewelry box.

I posed this question a couple weeks back and after 50+ days of 100 degree weather...it's time. Shorts for work it is....besides...with my own personal oven, I need all the help I can get.

The idea here, is that I can still be professional and wear shorts at the same time. I think one of the keys to this, is:

the shorts HAVE to be knee length or longer...like Bermuda's.
Heels help dress up any outfit, so a MUST too
Jewelry
Crisp shirt....I choose white, but any color that blends and has structure will do.

These are from Gap Maternity. It seems GM is my go-to place currently. There prices are reasonable....I really can't justify spending lots of money on something I'll only wear for 3 months.

Anyway..what do you think?

Today's Buys! J Crew Beaded fireworks necklace

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this necklace. I have been eyeing it for a while and finally broke down and bought it.

Consider this my "August shoes." If you recall my hubby lost a dangerous bet during Christmas, and I get to buy new shoes each month for a year. Read about it in this post. Currently shoes are not really high on my list. Clothes are maternal and so I am not buying that many clothes.....and therefore not that many shoes.....so instead of shoes this month, I bought this lovely necklace.

My hubby's B-day is this coming weekend, so I purchased for him an outfit that I think he'll look great in.

Friday, in the office today. Today is day 45 or 46 of over 100 degree weather in South Texas. It's really hot. One day, I will have a beautiful winter coat and live in a climate in which I can wear it! But for now, I will keep my electric bill high and my clothes light and airy.

So, speaking of light and airy, this top fits the bill. This is Gap Maternity Poppy Print Drawstring top (item 664195) reg. $35, on sale for $30. Soft jersey with a slight sheen creates a super-comfy top. The bold poppy print helps make, really a t-shirt, suitable for work....well at least on a Friday.

For work I am opting for the Khaki pants from ON. I would prefer to wear jeans at work, but our casual Friday's do not include denim...bummer.

The shoes are York Driving Mocs from J crew. I was unsure about the color when I purchased them, but really, they "go" with quite a bit. Here they just happen to compliment the top.

For a pop of color I wrap a turquoise necklace around my wrist for multiple strand look, and I am carrying a bright blue bag (not pictured.)

I adore this bag! It is the perfect size and shape for a mom bag. The more I look at it, the more I want it. It is fabulous! I love the pockets on the side where I can put my keys and cell phone and be able to find them quickly without searching the belly of the bag. I love low large it is, and I can carry all kinds of baby and toddler items without actually carrying a diaper bag.

OH I want it.....but...$298...if a little much for someone about to quit her job to stay home with the little ones.

I have found a couple on ebay for about $100 less, but the tag is ripped out to prevent store returns. I understand that...but I want to make sure I am getting THIS bag. I love it.

Did you miss me? I missed you. Work has been so crazy...not to mention my camera is MIA, so it's been awhile since I've blogged. But now that I've reached the 3rd trimester....I REALLY look pregnant, and I think I look pretty good. So far 18lbs and I'm at 28 weeks.

So here I am IRL:

The dress is from Gap Maternity (item #651236) reg: $59, on sale for $54.99, no big savings. But I'm having a girl...and felt so girly in this dress.

The sweater is Jcrew - Melanie Merino button cuff caridgan.

Shoes are J crew, as well, Patent Leather T- strap.

I SOOOOO want to shop right now. But the clothes I buy will really only work for the next three months. So I am trying to hold back.

Then...in three months, I'm quitting my job. So all my pretty work clothes will either go into the closet for ....(??) or go on sale.

We'll see.

Gap Floral Linen Ruffle Top & Cut Away Cardigan

In the office today. It's blazing hot...so what else is new? So today I needed some light. From my recent shopping at Gap Maternity, I've paired together the Floral Linen ruffle top (item # 636656) and the cut-away cardigan.

The top really needs a cardigan to pull of at work, otherwise it is way to casual. It is linen and very light and airy for summer, with a scoop neckline and ruffles in front. It is very boxy without much shape, not that I have much right now. The cardigan adds a bit of a waist line and accentuates the Buddha (belly).

Pants are standard, low waisted maternity stretch khaki's. These are a staple in my sad wardrobe right now.

The shoes are J Crew espadrilles from summer 06 in navy. Love them. They are comfortable and cute and I can get away with them at work.

Why I don't wear maternity tops (Vertical Stripes)

They don't fit. They are just so big and boxy and generally way too bag lady, or Mrs. Rooper.

So today's outfit is without a maternity top. Really I am not a fan of maternity clothes all together...but I have 5 months more of this and need to make the best of it.

Today I am wearing a strapless top from A'gaci, and long cardi from J Crew. The top is NOT maternity...but a couple years ago the umpire waist was VERY in and I took advantage. This particular top had lots of extra material and beautiful drape, esp for cotton so I couldn't pass it up. I also really like the vertical stripes....pregnant women should avoid the horizontal stripe, right?! The colors are fun and summery too.

Since I will be in the office today, I opted to cover my shoulders with a long cardi in a neutral beige.

The pants are a basic black staple in a cotton stretch, I will wear these out before my time is done.

Accessories are a multi-beaded necklace and bracelet that blend with the red in the top. Shoes are a simple black slide from AT.

This outfit was a spur of the moment...Fridays are always challenging, as I usually run out of ideas by the end of the week, so I am fairly content with how this turned out.

Can I wear shorts to work?

I don't know if I mentioned this, but it's 101+ degrees here in South Texas. Let's add that I have my own personal bun in the oven...and I'm just hot! HOT HOT.

Anyway, in a recent shopping outing to Gap Maternity, I found these Bermuda Shorts. They are listed as Demi panel pinstriped hip slung bermudas, Item #636952, regularly $44, on sale for $19.99. They are 100% cotton, but they are also clean and sleek with a pinstripe and a slight sheen to the material.

I imagine I could wear them with a basic white shirt (as pictured) and heels with jewelry and dress them up... The question is, can I wear them to work.

There is so much frumpy maternity clothes out there. I have seen some (the innocent will remain anonymous) that have come to work in a little more than scrubs and an over-sized tee....I can rationalize this ....right?

Maternity shirt dress

Today's outfit was all about the jewelry. That and it's 101 degrees outside and I needed to wear something cool.

The necklace is a recent purchase. Since clothes-buying is to a minimum because nothing will fit (for long) I have opted for buying jewelry and shoes. Today I am wearing two of my new finds.

The necklace is a faux turquoise beaded necklace, also from Premier Jewelry.

The shirt dress is from Motherhood Maternity, a simple khaki shirt dress, with tie back. The dress is very plain, so I really wanted to dress it up with accessories.

The pic of the left shows my first choice of belt. But I felt I looked like I was trying too hard with a belt with blue, blue shoes and the necklace. The pis of the right is my second choice of a simple brown leather with silver buckle. Although the first adds more color, I don't think it "goes" with the shoes and necklace.

The shoes are from Steve Madden. I bought them for the color. I am still in search for some Juliets in Peacock, but these were too cute to pass up.

The Basics - White shirt - khaki pants.

I call this "the basic" because it seems all maternity shops sell the same outfit. It's not a bad outfit, it's simple and I can build from this. I can add a bright colored top to the pants and add any bottoms (that fit) to my white top.

Shoes are my Spanish channels...love them still, they go great with this outfit.

The pants are a low fit-low-panel from old navy. Shirt is from Mimi maternity. The shirt is a pull over Henley type with detail umpire waist, tie back and 3/4 lenght sleeves.

It's not very exciting, but it's classic and I can wear it to work or out and I do not feel like a frump.

Valentines in June

Growing still! but now I am getting organize and my posts will become more regular in the coming weeks, before I get completely un-comfortable and tired.

wOw! Pregnancy boobs are great! I do not mean to be crass...but I am an A normally. I think I have grown to a full B maybe even a C. I am delighted. My clothes fit great and my figure looks good....well for a pregnant lady. I actually like the way I look right now. I finally look pregnant and not that I just gained a couple pounds here and there. I am still lean and nice round pump.

Today's wears are not maternity other than the pants. I can still get away with some non-maternity tops, but I need the pants. These are also Gap Maternity, with a higher waistline. I fold it over for comfort and to also give my belly bump a smoother silhouette.

The sweater is from Jcrew, and the shirt was gift...I believe from Forever 21.

Jewelry is new from Premier Fashion Jewelry. I host a show and this was my free gifts, necklace and earrings. I also added gold bangle bracelets.

Why boxy jackets work for preggers - Collette Jacket

I purchased this jacket during my first pregnancy. Love Love Love the color and the cut. It is the J Crew Collette Chino Jacket from SP 07. I wore this earlier this season and was chided because it appeared too boxy. Well thank goodness for the boxy-ness now. I think this makes for an transition piece, and the lines of the jacket now fit close to my ever growing belly.

Underneath I wear a non-maternity favorite fit tee in a light pink. This might be the last time I wear it too. It seems the favorite fit tees are not long enough for my needs, as you can see my maternity pants underneath.

It's just that all the maternity tops I have are still too big and I look like I am wearing a tent. I would like more stretch and length and less material....here's for hoping.

The pants are indeed maternity. From gap, they are the fold-over, underbelly fit. My favorite out of all the styles that currently. The pants are narrow and fitted with a wide fold over band at that fits right under and supports the belly.

The shoes are my new favorite...my Spanish penny loafers...see

Do I look pregnant yet? It seems, depending on what I'm wearing, I go from looking like I might have over eaten, to yes, I am indeed pregnant. This dress, just happens to make me look very pregnant.

The dress is from Gap Maternity, item # 634592. It is very simple, light weight, cotton silk blend. It has a nice drape, but as you can see, it wrinkles easily. The V-neck is very low, and now with my new pregnancy boobs, my cleavage can be a bit distracting, so I'm wearing a cami bra underneath.

Over the dress, I am wearing the JC Merino Rose Cardigan. I've added a bow detail belt for some visual interest. The shoes are my version of the LuLu's, these are from Etienne Aigner.

Pregnant Wears 5-20-09

I have been avoiding blogging about what I'm wearing, which kinda defeats the purpose of the blog, I know. But it's like gaining weight in general. Your clothes don't fit, so you have nothing to wear....that's been me. It's seems I've in the "in-between" stage for way to long. That stage where, my pre-pregnancy clothes are too small, but my maternity clothes are too big.

It's lasted about a month.

But here I am, growing belly and all, in maternity pants. I hate them. I do, but I'm doing the best I can with what I got, and I really don't want to look like a frump.

The pants are maternity pants from Motherhood Maternity...the lower end line of Pea in the Pod. It's kinda like Gap, with three brands at different levels, starting with Old Navy, then Gap, then Banana Republic. Motherhood Maternity is the equivalent to Old Navy, followed by Mimi Maternity, then Pea in the Pod.

I think Pea in the Pod overshoots BR. It's more like Armani with their prices. Really silly, so something you really can only wear for one season.

Anyway, back to me! The pants are an 'underbelly' fit, without any extra material over my belly. They are more like my pre-pregnancy pants, but with elastic in the back (yuk). They are still too big, and I think it shows.

The shirt is also a maternity shirt, but much for flattering. It's made of a stretchy Lycra blend, with a longer silhouette to cover a growing belly. The jacket is from AT.

I accessorize with my favorite pumpkin (orange) patent leather heels from JC and a long gold necklace.

April / June Shoes from Spain

I know I've been a dismal blogger. After returning from my wonderful trip....I just couldn't seem to catch up at work (where I usually blog), and so I appreciate those of you that have stuck around.

For my first blog, I wanted to share with you some of the Fabulous Shoes I picked up in Spain. These full fill my April and May shoe quota. For those of you that don't know the story you can find it on This Post.

So these are my April and May Shoes. Both I purchased in Mallorca, an island of Spain.

I really wanted to buy shoes that were practical for a mom to be, who is about to quit her job and chase toddlers around the house. Of course, I gravitated to the most gorgeous platform heels, but they would just sit in my closet, as my growing belly bump is shifting my center of gravity.

I also really wanted shoes that can really only be found in Europe, or are exclusively made there.

The first pictured above, my DH picked out, from a company called Callaghan. The website is http://www.callaghan.sp/, but I couldn't open it.... and it would all be in Spanish. I did find an article about the company opening a store in Japan. Here is what it said

The shoes are very comfortable and remind me of the ballet flats J. Crew has produced in the last couple of years.

The second, I was not quite sure I was going to buy until I tried them on. They feel like butter. The leather is so soft and fabulous. They really feel like I am wearing slippers. They are awesome. I have never felt shoes or shoe leather this soft and comfortable before. Once they were on my feet I knew I had to buy them.

These are from a very trendy company called Gioesppo. You can view their website here, http://www.gioseppo.com/. Of course, the site is also in Spanish, but I did translate a little about the company:

The old country, Palermo Sicily

Palermo Trip

Today was the most productive yet, perhaps because today we had a specific goal in mind. The past days we have just wanted to see something new and different, but today, the city of our forefathers, we were tasked and ready. Also, today the city and all the major sites were found along three major streets, so the plan was easy, we deciphered the map (thanks also to English speaking information booth) and made our way through the streets of Palermo.

First course of action was to find the family name in the city archives…..even before that we need to see if Palermo even had an archive, if it was in the cit, open to the public with family names. To our delight the answer was yes to all AND in walking distance. In fact, we walked by most of the city’s great monuments on our way to city’s archives.

Once there, we scanned the for the family name starting with 1905, then going back in 10 year increments, nothing. I started to think that the name was not Sicilian at all. Finally, in book dated 1836-1845 we found a page with multiple names. It was interesting, for years nothing, then an entire list, perhaps one large family that later moved outside the city.

After we found our names, we enjoyed a café and Sicilian canoli, The canoli was excellent, with chocolate and mascarpone cheese, the café was like jet fuel. They only gave us about an ounce each, but that was all it took to get our motors running and I have no doubt that car could run on a cup of Sicilian espresso.

With all the new found energy now had, we went to the cathedral. In each European city, I love to visit the cathedral, as each has their own style. Palermo, I gathered, is a poor community. I reasoned this from a couple of things, first, graffiti cover many of the city’s monuments. I think a rich city would either police that more, or paint over it. Second, the cathedral was not dripping in gold as it is in Barcelona or Mexico City, but instead their major sanctuary or alters are made of silver and marble.

Also in the Cathedral, we found a statue of St. Sebastian, the saint I wrote my thesis, and my son’s name. Also, the only time I’ve seen this saint represented in a national cathedral.

The National archives and the Cathedrals were our main goals for the day, having accomplished those two things, the remainder of the time we were content to walk the city streets. The streets were busier than in Genoa or Marseille, with more car traffic and even horse drawn buggies.
The weather was overcast and drizzled occasionally, but I always prefer it colder than hot. We found another local shop and purchased Sicilian chocolate and balsamic vinegar. We had an apple tart and another caffe, but this time we order extra milk.

We made it back to ship in time to depart for Tunis Africa tomorrow.

Naples, Pompei

Naples,

Today we landed in Naples, the third largest Italian city and first in the South of Italy. We did not stay to explore the city, although we would have loved to stay and sight see. Instead we took a bus to Pompei, found just at the bottom of Mount Vesuvius.

We arrived late in Naples, 10:30 so we were able to sleep in. Each day, we have spent the day exploring the city, so it was nice to sleep in. This baby (baby #2) has often kept me awake, it seems I sleep better in the morning. We stayed on the boat, had an early lunch and then took the tour to Pompei.

Once there, we walked the ruins with a guide. The city/village was (is) enormous, covering 45 square kilometers. We saw original frescos, bath houses, and temples. It is amazing haw well preserved everything still remains considering it was destroyed 2 thousand years ago.

Right outside the city, we once again ate pizza, and tried a new drink, lemon cello, a fermented lemon drink. We also saw beautiful cameo (being carved shells) as they were made thousands of years ago and still made today.

I think we walked 10 miles today, but it was completely worth it. I took lots of pictures that I must label soon before I forget them.

After the bus ride back, we boarded the ship and took s short nap before dinner, well I took a nap and Rob watched the other boats. Dinner was themed after the Campania Region, which includes, Naples, Capri and a host of other Italian southern cities, I say this only to day, dinner was the best tonight over all other nights so far.

Tomorrow we will land in Palermo, Sicily, the city of our Nonni’s. Rob and I will try to find the city’s book on registry and see if we can find our family name…..or maybe find out we are not Sicily after all, who knows.

FYI, today I wore JC driving mocs, a cables cashmere V-neck sweater and JC cuffed khaki crinkle chinos, I was quite comfortable, esp the driving mocs, they are awesome.

Day 3 - Genoa

Today was day three, and we explored the city of Genoa. It is a good catholic city in which on Sunday most things were closed. But we were delighted to walk the streets anyway.

Immediately after we disembarked the ship we went to the aquarium, the largest and most prominent in Italy. Although it was large and beautiful, it was really no better than sea world in San Antonio. I say this to acknowledge how blessed we are to live in the same city as Sea World.

Then we walked into center city and went to the Church “del Gesu” A beautiful church with paintings by Peter Paul Reuben’s, a world famous Flemish artist. The church was gorgeous and breath taking, but we were not there for 10 mins before the priest handed Rob the keys the church and told us to lock up on our way out. Really he was joking, but it a funny way told us they were closing.

After, we found an Italian Pizzeria and had the most wonderful Pizza ever. The crust was thin, and they did not use tomato sauce, but crushed tomatoes, mozzarella and oregano.
Then we ventured into Christopher Columbus house and saw the gate of the city.

After, I was in search of an Italian scarf. You would think in Italy it would be easy to find. It seemed most everyone in Italy wears a scarf, men women, and children. So we shopped and surprisingly I found many a scarf that said “made in India.” So I was determined not to buy a scarf from India in Italy. Finally, I found a scarf at a store called laRinascenta, with “Made in Italy”, on the tag.

The best was the apron we found for my MIL. Not only was it made in Italy, we saw it being made ourselves. You’ll just have to wait and see.

After all that, we walked back to ship, just in time for the ships departure for Naples tomorrow. We sat on our balcony and had said goodbye to Genoa with a coffee the French cookies we purchased in Marseille.

Tomorrow we plan on visiting Pompei, the famous city that was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, but completely preserved by the ashes that covered the city.

Our cellphones do not work anywhere, despite being told otherwise by Sprint.

I been so busy that I haven't had a chance to blog, thanks for still comming around. I am in Barcelona, tomorrow I'll be in Marseille, France. The week leading up to my trip was crazy! I don't think work is ever as busy as when you have to get ready to be gone on vaction.
I will take lots of pics and make some reviews.

Today, I watched the people, esp. the women in Barcelona to see what different fashions they have. Very urban, but not that different from our urban areas.

I went to great Cathredral of Barcelona, beautiful. Love it.

Once again, I'll try to log on and say where I've gone, and what I'm wearing, it's just taking a vacation to get me to sit still and finally blog.

Flowey Jersey Bateau dress

This is the second outfit my Personal Shopper put together for me. This is the J crew Flowey Jersey Bateau dress. It is very casual, the material is cotton and soft and super comfortable.
The dress has roushing along that waist seam, which gives it extra material for the skirt, thus the name flowey.

I have worn this dress alone, but this is my attempt to dress it up for work. So to add some sense of "put-together-ness" I layer the dress over a starched while button down shirt, then fold the sleeves up as the dress has 3/4 length sleeves.

My accessories are my bright patent yellow ballet flats and madras belt.

Last Suit before Maternity.....

So now that's it, I need to have a sit down with the boss types, I thought a suit would be appropriate today.

I can barely button the pants, so the belt helps in my camouflage.
The suit is a Jcrew Wool twill in a color called Rye. The trousers are flat front and straight leg with a tab closure.

The jacket is three button, although it does not close well, I wear it open anyway. Underneath I wear the hammered silk tank in black. I really like the pleating in the tank, I think it adds a little bit of visual interest and makes for a great layering piece.

I accessorize with the J crew Serengeti calf hair belt, gold woven scarf and Black buckle heels.

Jewelry is super simple too. Diamond studs, solitaire necklace and watch...I think very business like.

The Outfit that outed me - J Crew Roughed belt

I really thought I looked cute today. I keep seeing the J Crew Roughed-out leather belt especially in the catalog, over dresses, jackets and sweaters. My new style icon, Michelle Obama wears a belt over a sweater, it seems all the time and she looks great!

So this was my try at the belted sweater, with thick Roughed-out leather belt. Today's outfit includes:

Gap wide leg chino trousers in khaki-stripe.

J crew Harlow Blouse in Fresh Guava

J crew Merino Michelle V-neck cardigan in champagne

and to pull it all together the Roughed-out leather belt.

Well it seems some of my co-workers thought this looked like maternity wear. Yep, she just came out and asked loudly, " Are you pregnant! I noticed your little panza."

Uuuuggghhhhh - panza is an endearing term for pregnant gut!

Granted, I know I don't exactly have a six pack right now, but I did not think I was showing THAT much. But according to my co-worker, this outfit gave it away.

I still like it.....I think.

Orange & Blue

Dr. Appt today, not for me but for my little guy. We are playing and enjoying the the weather. 20 months is such a fun age. Everything is fun and has a name and we learn new names for things he does not know. It's like watching a little miracle when he learns something new.

I am pretty casual today. J crew cafe capri's and a broadcloth shirt. I am wearing my "February Shoes" ( Click here for the story! )

Today's outfit is all about the color. Living in South Texas, I am used to seeing and wearing lots of color. I really like to find those corresponding colors that pop just by their juxtaposition, in this case orange and bright blue.

My only accessories are my fun shoes and the gold rim bauble necklace. It is not an exact match, but I didn't want it to be. The color of the necklace blends and really pops next to the blue. Granted, I did not get to wear the necklace too long because my toddler LOVES to wear it too.

Tessa Jacket for Spring

I am finally starting to feel better. I had a break through this weekend in that just a little bit of caffeine has made a world of difference. So far, I am still fitting into my clothes, but I am finding that I have a range of fits, those things that fit me perfectly and with any weight gain, I can no longer wear. AND, those items that leave room for growth, I can see now where some may say that my clothes tend to hang on me. When I am my normal size (not pregnant), I might look a little frumpy.

With that said, I am so thankful for loose fitting clothes and boxy sweaters. Today, my Gap wide leg chinos are a perfect fit. I am wearing a simple favorite fit tee under the J. Crew Tessa jacket (SP 08).

I LOVE the neckline of this sweater jacket. I think it makes my neck look thin. Don't misunderstand, I do not think I have a think neck, but I think the neckline of the sweater makes my neck look thin.

My accessories are the JC desert bauble bracelet along with a gold link chain bracelet, and my snakeskin beaded flats.

The weather is cool and perfect spring sweater. I am at work today with no meetings, just at my desk really. Am I the alone when I say "I come to work to rest...." funny, I am thankful sometimes for desk job.

Wide leg Linen & Ottoman Jacket - Olive and Navy

I feel like it's time to pull out all my baggy pants, and put away all the skinny jeans! But baggy is not good and can make me look bigger than I actually am, which is not the result I am looking to achieve. The point is camouflage. So I am thinking wider silhouettes.

Today's outfit, I am trying by best at camouflage with wide leg linen blend slacks and my Navy Ottoman jacket, this time worn un-buttoned. I really like the jacket. It has a slight A-line shape with a fold over rounded collar. I am wearing the jacket un-buttoned and the slight cut-away detail at center-front of jacket, makes for a wider more casual silhouette. My picture does not really show the collar very well, so I might take another pic to show detail.

Beneath the jacket I am wearing a light grey silk cami. The also floats away from the body, very similar to the JC Zoey tank or hammered silk tank.

The shoes are a two-tone grey leather peep toe.

White House Black Market

I have always liked the line from Black House White Market. I first found them in DC during a work trip and since then they have expanded everywhere it seems. I find them similar to J Crew with classic lines and not too trendy but always up-to-date. This outfit is based around the Cami-tunic from White House Black Market.

The top is actually two pieces, the first is completely see thru with umpire waist and embroidery at the hem. The second is the cami, which came with the top. This makes dry-cleaning problematic, as I have to pay for both pieces. Boo.

Layering is a good thing right now, so I layer a short black jacket from AT over the tunic and pair it with short wool twill favorite fit trousers from JC. My shoes are patent leather mary-janes and black as well, so I really need come color in this outfit.

The choker -necklace I got from a local artist in a little mining town near Mexico city. The town is Real del Monte and my mother claims it as her home town. It is known for silver mining, although this piece does not have a lot of silver, the coral pieces really caught my eye.

So a little bit of color in my Black and White outfit.

Taffeta Belle Skirt

I am trying to wear all my spring clothes before they don't fit me anymore. The Taffeta Belle Skirt included. I love this skirt. This was the first outfit my JC personal shopper put together for me last summer. I think she did a great job.

My take on American Icon, Lauren Hutton

Thanks to a fun post by Jcrew chick (aka slastena), I thought I would take a stab and recreating the look by J. Crew and Lauren Hutton. You can see Slastena's look Here , and she looks great.

The idea is a simple white tank under a fitted white button down shirt with a denim skirt and pearls. I do not have the denim skirt, but I do have pleated seersucker denim skirt from last year, so it's a lighter version.

The tank is from Banana Republic and is a satin trim v-neck tank in white. The shoes are a strappy sandal from Nine West that I got last year from DSW.

Over all I am content with this look. The shirt is fitted, but with it un-buttoned, it does make for a casual flowey effect.

Spring Colors - Hiding the Baby Bump

It's the first day of spring and I wanted to wear something bright and floral. Since I have no fun floral prints currently, I opted for bright instead.

Today I am wearing the JC jersey Luxe Pleated top with white Chinos from CR. The top is perfect. Soft, flowey and perfect pleats makes for easy coverage of the rubber band that is holding my pants close because I can't button them!

The jacket is bright green from AT. Three button fitted, with fun pleating in the back. It is very similar to the denim jacket I wore earlier this week, just this one is bright green and with a notch collar rather than a rounded collar.

I really couldn't decide on shoes for this outfit, With so much going on up top, I thought a neutral shoe would work best. These are a buttery leather, pointy toe from Unisa, I got from Dillard's.

Orange Cafe Capri & Polka Dot "pre-maternity"

Home today with my angel baby. We are out and about as usual and it is usually hot. Today I am donning my Cafe Capri's from JC. JC notes that these are their best fitting pants ever, and I can't say I agree. Perhaps because they stretch as I wear them, and by the end of the day, my posterior looks a little saggy. But being as I am gaining weight with every breath, these pants seem to work for today.

Not too adventurous with these bright orange pants, I pair them with a Collection blouse from SU 06. I call this pre-maternity. Summer 06 was the summer when umpire waists were all the rage, so this top works great for me even today with my growing baby belly. The polka dots are sewn in, rather than painted or a part of the fabric, which I thinks adds just a little bit of detail and quality that makes it one step above places like Forever 21. The blouse has a self belt, mandarin collar and puff sleeves, which adds femininity. IMO

The shoes are my favorite part. With the warm weather, I can pull out my espadrilles, which never seem to go out of style. These too are JC and were my first shoe purchase from them, other than flip flops.

Really this outfit is quite simple; capri's, blouse and sandals. But it is the details that will keep bringing me back to J. Crew. Too bad they don't sell maternity clothes.

Buttercup Chinos (take 6)

So this is yet another take on my buttercup chinos. I am determined to find something that goes perfectly with this odd color, other than white. And I am determined to do this before I can no longer fit into them. So DH bought me this beautiful broadcloth shirt from JC. The color is called bright blue and true to form it is so, I think it makes a nice contrast to the yellow gold chinos.

Along with the shirt, I add a fitted denim blazer from AT. I would call it a jacket, but it has just intricate details, I think it is more of a blazer....is there such a difference? The blazer is fitted with a inset belt, and detail pleats in the black. It has kind of a puff sleeve at the shoulders and rounded collar.

Shoes and belt are a cognac color, both from Nine West.

Python Lucia Wrap Jacket

It is still raining and cold, and I need layering, but not too much. This is the Python Wrap Jacket from SP08, I must admit the pics do not do the jacket justice, I really love it. Elbow length sleeves , almost bell sleeve and one button wrap, this jacket is really for spring, but due to the cold rain, I put it over a tissue turtleneck in chocolate.

The outfit I really have FFM to thank for idea, as she created an adorable outfit in this post, except instead of a cashmere turtleneck, I'm wearing a tissue turtleneck, it is Texas and not that cold.

I'm in the office today, with no meetings, just at my desk, but I feel put together.

Gap Fleece Pea Coat

Home today with my toddler, the weather is still cool and I am loving it. Today, the toddler and I are headed to the zoo, so I'll be walking and playing. The Zoo is our new hang-out. My house is SO not set-up for children, so we are often out and about when we are home together.

Today I am wearing one of my spoils from the F&F event at Gap. The is the Fleece Pea Coat. It is basically a sweatshirt, but cut in a cut different way, in this case like a pea coat.

I really love sweats, I love the comfort and warm, but I hate the way they look, and I really hate to see other moms in the mom-uniform of sweats and running shoes. Too frumpy and I am working hard not to be that mom.

The pea coat is thin, but warm, unlined so I think after a couple washes it might lose its shape, however I think it was a good deal for $12. The double-breasted part of the coat may make my baby belly look bigger than it really is, but on the other hand, it covers it pretty well too.

Anyway, I pair my pea coat with my staple, my boyfriend jeans from JC and my driving mocs, which are so comfortable and NOT running shoes.

The Baby Bump!!

You might have noticed that my posts have been few and far between, it's really because I have not really been feeling well. My DH and I are expecting our second baby in November and we are so thrilled! On the other side of that, I feel really crummy, so I know I'm having a healthy baby.

One thing that I am noticing, is I am growing a lot faster this time, my clothes are already getting tight! So the blog will continue, maybe just not as frequent and it will soon look like "What the pregnant woman is wearing today."

I have not yet announced at my work, they'll know soon enough, I doubt any of them read this blog anyway. But I wanted to tell you and to why I have been absent.

I have been trying the keep it low key so far, so I've been layering. If I look boxy, I think it is because I am! lol.

Anyway, I am itching to shop. I am kinda in between right now. I am too small to fit into my maternity clothes, and my regular clothes are fitting tight. So here's where I'd like your help. What can I buy right now that can carry me for a while? Joyce just recently bought a beautiful necklace that looks amazing, and I'll never get to big for jewelery.

Cashmere Tee on a Rainy Day

Today the weather has changed dramatically. It is cold and rainy. Yesterday was in the 80's, but with this cool weather, I was not about to revert to winter, but I definitely needed a sweater.

Today's I'll be at my desk, trying to be productive and desperately missing my little guy.

Nothing makes me warm and cozy like cashmere. I love cashmere. Too bad in Texas, it is usually too warm to wear, but perfect for a day like today.

I have several cashmere tee's, I choose this one for the color. I think it is called Blade, but I think is a perfect color for spring. Hopefully some of this rain will allow for something green to grow in my yard.

The tee, by itself, is very plain, I would need some large jewelry to liven it up a bit. Since I am lacking in the Large jewelry department, I opted for a scarf. This on is linen with little beads at the ends. The picture does not really show it very well, but the scarf is kinda sheer but matches the color of the sweater.

I have a meeting today with my VP and a VP from another organization today. Not too big of a deal, but I want to look nice and feminine and I just don't feel like wearing a suit.

So today I am wearing a vintage dress from my MIL. This dress must be 40+ year's old. It is great shape. They don't make dresses like this any more that can stand up to the test of time. There is no tag and it is unlined, but the material is very heavy and makes a beautiful drape. It feels like a wool crepe.

The neck of dress is almost like a boat-neck with wide scoop neck. The dress is sleeveless and has a slight A-line. It is a sheath dress that falls just above my knee with an adorable ruffle, ribbon detail and bow.

Today I'll keep the accessories simple in Jackie O style, a pearl necklace and bracelets. I am wearing diamond studs, but you can't see them. Also the shoes are low key, black open-toed slides with an "O" detail buckle from AT.

Collette Chino Jacket - Play Date

At home today.....so glad. The weather is gorgeous. Today we are going to my work to meet the co-workers, they haven't seen my little guy since he was 4months old, then we're going to the zoo, and finally (after nap) we are going to a play date at the park. This big day calls for Super Chino!

Today I am wearing the Jcrew Collette Chino Jacket from SP 07. I loved this jacket. I loved it so much I actually paid full price for it, and I NEVER pay full prize. Well, almost never. I am wearing this jacket with more chinos, the city fit surplus chino is slate gray. Under the jacket I am wearing a fitted yellow tee and my yellow city ballet flats.

I think it's fun for today.

Black, Pink & Pearls

Last day of work before my long weekend. I am so glad this week is over, I miss my little guy.

Anyway, back to fashion. Believe it or not, today I am NOT wearing anything from my favorite store - J.Crew. Shocking as it is...life goes on.

Today I opted for a twin set and skirt from AT. The skirt is a cotton linen blend with a fine white plaid stripe. Originally the skirt was calf-length, but I had it shortened. It just didn't make sense to have a long lined linen skirt. I always imagined linen for warm weather and long skirts for cooler weather. And since there is very little cool weather here, I made the adjustment.

The sweater twin set is also from AT. It is a very fine ribbed silk nylon blend. The cardigan in v-neck, while the shell is a crew neck.

I think today's outfit is all about the accessories. With just the skirt and twin set, I think the outfit is quite boring, but when I add the pearls and shoes I think it makes the outfit very feminine and flirty.

The long pearls are from Target. I was in search of the pearl cluster necklace and found this instead. The smaller strand are my own and real, a gift from DH. I also add pearl bracelets, and a pearl ring.

The shoes are Nine West from DSW. They're a patent leather peep-toe mary jane. Just the description sounds feminine.

The Big Meeting - Faux Wrap Blouse

With a very high stress meeting today, the last thing I need to be worried about is my clothes. I thought about a dress - I have a fabulous vintage dress, that is very Jackie O (or Michelle O!), but it's a bit chilly and the dress is sleeveless, and I DO NOT wear hose. Does anyone really wear hose any more? They don't in South Texas unless it's colored tights for fashion OR you've over the age of 55.

Anyway, today I wanted to dress like I had something to contribute (confident). I Love this blouse, It is an AT wrap. Not a faux wrap, but an actual wrap, which can be problematic if you are flat chested like me, or even with a large chested (is that a word?), you have to be careful with an actual wrap, esp with how it falls on your body. I opted for an undershirt, just to be sure. Besides, even though I would like a distraction in a high stress meeting, I do not want the flash of bra to be that distraction! The blouse is a flowy silk with pinstripes, v-neck and collar. The wraps gives me a figure in (I think) a sexy and professional way.

The trousers are a flat front wool crepe in Navy from JC. Classic from their 05 line. I do not have the jacket I wish i did. I bought the 08 jacket and the navy sis not match. Boo. So I just have the slacks. I love them. They have a beautiful drape and are not too heavy. I have this same suit in Espresso and it seems heavier, so I put it away for the spring.

The shoes are a pointy-toe tassel slide from AT with kitten heel. Actually they're very comfortable and work with the outfit. (I think)

I am looking forward to my days off with my toddler, but I still don't know I will wear....

Work Day Business Casual

I should not be working today. But I have a big meeting tomorrow and I'm nervous. So I came to work today to set-up and prepare and surf the net during my down time... :)

So just sitting at my desk with paper work today, I opted to shop my closet this morning (See stare longingly into my closet for something new to wear.)

Today's outfit includes:

Low fit Pinstripe Trousers Navy (BR)

Slim fit Broad cloth Button Shirt in Lavender (JC)

Merino Rose Cardigan in Navy (JC)

Suede Pointy-toe loafers Navy (JC)

I would usually just wear the pants and shirt on a day like this, but I add the cardigan for two reason: 1) my warm weather has left momentarily and I'm cold. 2) I think the cardigan add a bit of put-togetherness to this outfit. One added layer makes for more visual interest.

The shirt also adds some interest my the cuff, which I wear flipped outside of my sweater. The cuffs are a green stripe, kind-of like a baseball stripe (what do you call that?) that makes for a fun bit of color change to an otherwise two color outfit.

At am I a quandary as to what to wear tomorrow with the VP's...I might wear my blended neutrals....or my black suit....or a dress....ugh. Tomorrow's meeting is a staff meeting with VP's on how to salvage the Co. Hmmm..

Weekend update:

Well my warm weather left...and did it. I had my air conditioning running on Friday, then I was freezing Saturday! Well, you know you're a Texan when 60 degrees makes you cold!

The usually weekend of shopping, laundry and a small get together with girlfriends. All day Saturday, I ran around trying to get everything done around my house. I wore jeans and a tee shirt and running shoes, I know it's awful. Then I recalled that I needed to meet friends for coffee and some adult conversation. So I did a quick change. I kept the jeans and tee and changed my tennis to my snakeskin flats and added my chino jacket and BR scarf.

So the outfit is very casual, but I think it looks like I tried. It includes:

It will be 90+ degrees today! OMG.....the munchkin and I are going to this park where the deer are tame and we can feed them grapes and carrots, then we are going to eat sushi with my mom and friends. So today's outfit needs to play double duty. I need to be able to chase deer and also be presentable for lunch. And because it will be so very hot out, I am pulling out my shorts for the first time this season, can you believe it!

Cotton lawn-silk Chérie cami

I'm home with my little guy today. We are running around the house and playing in the yard, and I want to go out to ON to buy my little guy some shorts. I'm very casual, jeans and flip-flops, but I actually tried not to look like a frump.

DH bought me the Cherie cami for V-day. I love the color and I love my shoulders in it. Who doesn't like their shoulders? Ladies, if you do not like your shoulders, you really need to give yourself a break.

The Cherie is very flowey, with light-weight cotton and A-line. I think the neck-line off set how wide it flares, as it adds a little show of skin without being too much.

Today, I'm wearing my Cherie cami with my boy leg jeans and summer staple, the critter flip flop. I swear these last two pieces will be every other day in the summer, they are me.

For shopping I will add a SS sweater. This one is from BR from SP 08. It's a long cardi with a V-neck. Looks great with a skirt....according to JC.

I am also wearing my new Brighton Meadow Necklace DH got me this last week. I think it goes nicely with the color...and adds that I actually thought out this outfit.

Essentially this is jeans and a cotton tee, I just hope it's a nit better than it sounds.

Linen Suit & Slim Stretch Shirt

Another Committee Meeting, and another hot day in South Texas. I needed to wear a suit today, but all the wool suits in my closet are just too heavy. I choose my linen suit for the light-weight material and the sheen of the suit.

I usually would not choose this suit for a meeting, simply because by the end of the day it is a wrinkled mess. Some say, it's fine, everyone knows it linen and it's suppose to look that way as long as it still fits and it looks sharp....I still feel like a wrinkled mess. Today's meeting was first thing this morning, so only the car ride to wrinkle me. The rest of the day I will be working at my desk.

The suit is from the J Crew SP 06 line. The jacket is fitted kinda like the Maggie, with an inset waistband that I think helps gives me a figure and front and back darts. The jacket is a 0 and if I gained an inch it wouldn't close!

The top is the Slim Stretch Kelly Shirt from Fall 08. I love the color of the shirt, a bright orange red. The shirt has 3/4 sleeves and a fabulous stretch material that makes it fit perfect. I am wearing an XS. The belt is from SU08 and is a graphic ribbon belt. I choose it because it's playful and adds a bit more interest to the outfit.

The shoes are my new go-to, the Madden Girl peep-toe platform that I seem to be wearing quite often.

Spring Pants & First look at Linen

It will be 81 degrees today in South Texas. Yea for warm weather. I am cheering now because I've put away my winter clothes and replaced them with spring attire. I love this time of year, simply because it feels like I've gone shopping with out actually spending any money! Items that have not seen the light of day in at least 4 months!

The only caveat is that summers in South Texas last from March until October, so by the end of it all I will have worn everything too many times and the shopping bug in me will rear it's ugly head. Not that shopping is bad, I love it...I just can't, in these economic times.

So today I brought out my linen blends. I almost got out the door without wearing any Jcrew, but alas, because most of my closet is indeed from that store, it's kinda hard.

So today's outfit includes:

Cotton Linen White Striped pants from AT Loft
Silk Cami from Jcrew
Linen Officer's Jacket from Van Huesen
Pointy Toe Slides from Franco Sarto.

The pants are wide legged and cuffed at the bottom and have a pin-stripe of black and tan. The jacket, I am quite proud of, because I paid only $6 at a final sale. It is unlined with shell buttons and a Mandarin type collar. I really like the pin tuck and shape of the jacket, I think it adds just a little more visual interest.

Then there's the shoes. I've really been excited about colored shoes lately but today I opted for neutral brown than blended with the pants. The heel is fairly high...these are what I call "desk shoes," as I only wear them when I'll be sitting at my desk all day. The thing is, today I actually have some meetings.

DH has been so sweet with the jewelry gifts, so today I am also wearing a gift from my DH. I am wear gold Venetian Glass necklace and bracelet.

And for my reader...(you know who you are) who is not quite happy with my pics of late, I've tried to change it up, to show how the clothes fit on me. I must admit these pants fit looser than they did last season, (a pleasant surprise) but I am not yet willing to get them altered....

Long and Lean ~ BR Lightweight Martin Trouser

I have found my new favorite pant for spring and summer. They are the BR Martin Trouser Pant. These pants have a perfect wide leg. Wide leg, meaning they fit snug at the widest part of my hip/thigh and then flow straight down from there. I love these pants! They still give me a figure and they DO NOT fit loose on me, but the wide leg creates a very long leg line making me look and feel long and lean.

The pants are a wool-silk blend, unlined and very thin, which makes them perfect for the hot weather in South Texas. No side pockets, so I can get a smooth silhouette.

The sweater is also BR, it's the crew neck cardigan in a dark aqua blue. The main reasons I choose the sweater was (first) I wanted a fitted top to offset the wide leg of the pant. (second), I wanted a color to show off my new necklace DH got me!

I am usually not a Brighton Fan. When I think of Brighton, I think of embellished country-western style shoes. But DH did great with this find. It is the Midnight Meadow Necklace from their new spring line and it is so adorable.

It comes with a very long chain that I double to make it more of a choker style. The colors are bright and vibrant and oh so spring-like.

Shoes for today our the JC Juliet Heels in Pumpkin. They make a good pop of color and blend with my necklace.

Business Meeting - Black Suit and Bright Shoes

I meant work-out last night, but I spent the evening procrastinating (playing on the Internet) and preparing for today. I had a big meeting today first thing in the morning, meaning I would have no time in the morning for preparation. So I packed lunch for the toddler, diapers, and such and then followed with the never ending process of staring into my closet wondering what to wear.

I went for a staple today, the black suit. This suit is a wool pinstripe suit from AT. I am not even sure it's a pinstripe. The stripes look like they are a texture of the suit, very subtle. I wear the suit over the J crew Emerson Blouse.

And then the shoes. I am wearing no other color other than the Aqua Patent Bag I'm currently carrying, but that will not be with me in the meeting. SO to finish my outfit, I am wearing my Juliet Patent heels in pumpkin.

In past, I would have immediately gravitated to a black pump, but now I am a liberated woman and wearing bright shoes. I think the bright shoes look like I picked them on purpose. I think so many times, in the past, I have worn black pumps...because they were black....and they really did not fit with the outfit, esp, if they were worn and tired. I think the pumpkin pumps project that I actually thought about it. Really, how else can you read this statement?

Spring is Here - February Shoes

It's 80 degrees in South Texas today, so as far as I am concerned spring has arrived and I am putting away all my heavy sweaters, boucle, wool and all things winter.

Today for lunch I went shopping for my February shoes. What? you ask are February shoes?

Well, it seems my DH lost a dangerous bet over the holiday. We were running late to a family dinner and I was fuzzing that we had to leave soon to make it to our destination on time. He assured me that we would still be the first ones there. I bet him a new pair of shoes that we would not, and he came back and bet a year worth of shoes to the contrary.

So here was the bet: If he won (and we were the first to arrive) then I would not be able to buy shoes for the entire year!! You see, he was (and still is) convinced I have to many shoes.

If I won (and we were NOT the first to arrive) then he would buy me a new pair of shoes every month for a year!

So since I am writing this blog, my SIL and family had arrived and I WON!! So my January shoes were my beautiful red Michelle D. Shoes.

And my February shoes are from a new line I discovered call Penny Loves Kenny and these are called Ambrosia Gladiators. They just look like spring and summer. They have metallic gold and silver flowers along the straps of the shoe, they are light and wispy and oh so pretty in person.

I imagine wearing them with anything and everything. IRL pics to come soon.

Ottoman Aubrey Jacket~Navy - workday

I have eyed this jacket online for a while, and I must say the pic online does not do it justice. I found the jacket at my B&M and tried both the navy and papaya. I really like the cut of the jacket, with the 3/4 length sleeves with thick cuffs and the fold-over neckline. I also like the large covered buttons. The linen-cotton blend also makes a really nice texture, similar to a wool crepe but heavier and without sheen.

I ended up buying the navy as I think I can pair it with more items, plus the hubby liked it more, and since he was buying... :)

However, now that I've created an outfit, I think the papaya would have gone better with today's pants.

I am at work today, in which there is a staff meeting, so I needed to dress professionally. I think this jacket and cami combo would look great with jeans instead of navy slacks, but I can't wear jeans to work. Bummer.

Lady-Like Pretty Wool Flannel Abstract Rose Dress

It's a cold rainy day and I feel like singing the West Side Story song I Feel Pretty. Today I am wearing my T J Maxx find, the Wool Flannel Abstract Rose Dress. I love the cut of the dress. The empire waist makes my legs look super long and the pencil form of the skirt is so flattering. I feel long and lean.

The top of the dress, with it's bold print and colors, makes me hesitant to add any other accessorizes. It is a bit damp outside, so I add my newest purchase, the Merino Michelle V-neck cardigan in Champagne. The cardigan is long, but I think it goes well with the dress because they both fit close to by body, and it's not too bulky. I think a shorter cardigan would not look quite as flattering.

In the past, I think I would have immediately gravitated to a black shoe with this dress. But now, having been inspired by Stacey and Clinton, and so many wonderful blogs (that's you FFM), I think I am now brave enough to add a colored shoe. In this case, I have chosen a dark orange red suede heel that I've worn several times in past posts.

Shopping Day

I'm out and about today, shopping and returning. DH bought 6 pairs of jeans from Jcrew...yes 6. But only 2 worked for him, so I am taking them back and shopping for something spring on this Presidents day. Today is mild, and a bit breezy. I am going to La Cantera, which is a beautiful outdoor mall with lots of wind tunnels.

The outfit today is quite casual and oh-so-comfortable.

Friday - pant rolling

Home today with my little guy. We are going to go to the grocery store to buy something romantic to cook for tomorrow night. Very exciting.

This is also my first try at rolling my jeans. I think the look is better with heels. I am short (5'3") and so the rolled jeans and flats, I think make me look shorter. DH didn't care much for it either. I actually remember in elementary school when jean rolling was in....am I dating myself?

I met some friends at a new shopping center for drinks tonight. It was a new part of town and I kinda got lost, but I found a new TJ Maxx and I stopped in to look and SCORE!!!

I found the J crew Cotton Cady Lyndsey Dress (Item #86686)! It is selling for $225 at jcrew.com right now and I got it for $19.99! They had all colors, but I got the black. Here's what J crew says about it.

The Wool Flannel Abstract Dress (item #96378) It is so beautiful on. I got a size 2 and it fits perfect! Love Love Love it. Originally it sold for $188, then was on sale for $49.99. I got it for $19.99! I am so pumped. They only had one and it was my size. Fortuitous!

I asked and they said they did not get any shoes, but I will now frequent this store often to check back.

Why is Jcrew selling to TJ Maxx? Who knows, but I am definitely reaping the benefits. Although I do agree this does bring down their brand name.

Astrid Boucle Jacket Take #2 plus new shoes!

This is my last day of work before the holiday weekend (I don't work Friday's unless I have to) and I am feeling festive. The weather is Bizarre. It was 30 this morning and will hit 80 this afternoon, so I wanted to wear something I can take off. (I think I've said that before....)

The first time I wore this jacket, I was overwhelmed with the color and wore grey, but the model in the catalog wore khaki's. Being that I am working today, I can't (shouldn't) wear chino's to work. As much as I would love to wear soft chino's, I would look way to casual.

So today, I am wearing my Astrid Jacket with my Wool Twill suit pants in Rye. It's a light khaki color but with a beautiful drape. The cami is neutral silk .

The shoes do not match the jacket, but they blend with the pants in fabulous way. They are a striped linen blend with purple, orange, white a khaki, slingback with a wooden heel from Banilino.

Finally "My Wish List Outfit" IRL

So after much work....I finally have my wish list outfit together and it fits. It's almost anti-climatic after all that I did to get it together and I am not sure I really like it. In this post, I was dreaming of a color combination with a sweater my DH bought me for Christmas. I later purchased that Double Serge Pencil skirt, only to find it was too big.

I am currently in between sizes at my favorite store. The 0 is too small while the 2 is too big. So having received the skirt, I promptly took it to the tailor.

Meanwhile, I received the blouse and love it! It went great with the sweater as many of you noted in this post, the colors looked nice together. But the day that I wore the outfit, I got grease on the blouse, thanks to my toddler. So I took it to the cleaners, which did not get the grease out, so back to the cleaners again.

To make a long story, longer....the tailor was not exact in the alterations, so then there was that time to be fitted again.

Business Reception

A colleague in our office is leaving for another opportunity. The staff is hosting a farewell reception in her honor this afternoon. The CEO, CFO and all the VP's will be attending as they all do for such things. There will be light hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine. Other than that I will be at my desk and then running to TJ Maxx for lunch to see if I can find any goodies.

I would like to look business best for this reception due to the fact that all my co-workers and bosses will be in attendance, but I also don't want to look like I am trying to hard.

The business suit it is! This is my J crew Wool Crepe suit in Espresso. A dark brown with a hint of green. The pants are flat front, favorite fit, with a bit of flare at the leg. The jacket is three button, but I never close it, I usually wear it open.

I layer because it's just hot. So at my desk I'm wearing a v-neck cashmere cardigan in golden cypress over a cami with lace detail.

I accessorize with a stone necklace and a printed a calf -hair belt. The shoes are brown with a kilty detail, and not too flashy. I have worn parts of the suit, but rarely together. The sweater is now a stable of the suit.

Monday Update

So I completely forgot I have a meeting with my son's teacher today. So as I was procrastinating at home, I thought about what to change into so I don't look like a complete frump.

This meeting is about biting...it seems my child has been bitten quite often.....not biting others, but others biting him....so we are going to see what can be done. I really hope they are meeting with the other parents.

I really want to look put-together and not like some after thought. But I needed to hurry. In comes the jacket. I am a firm believer that a nice jacket can spiff up any outfit. So my quick change to today's meeting is my Coppelle Paisley Jacket (Jcrew SP 08). I keep with the same jeans as earlier this morning and I switch the shoes to my bow flats.

Monday, Monday..I have that old 60's song in my head. My little guy is sick again...and it's rainy and damp, not too cold however. I am taking my toddler back to the Dr. again. This time no shots, but prob some antibiotics. We'll run some errands, so to the store and post office, I'll see how much he tolerates, but I have the feeling we'll spend the majority of time indoors and at home.

So today's outfit is fairly simple and quite casual. One plus is I am wearing the MOST comfortable shoes outside of wearing sneakers. These are my new Jcrew driving mocs. I just got them from the dreaded FS, and they only had this color in my size. But they are super soft and comfortable and I am sure I can find things to wear this color with anyway.

Today I am wearing them with my hip slung jeans, and layering soft tees on top. The first is a simple light blue cami under a v-neck, 3/4 sleeve long tee with studded embellishment at the hem.

I am wearing my three stone necklace as my only accessory other than my wedding ring. Fairly simple. I will say, it is not sweats and all that I am wearing actually fits me. I am casual, but also cute and stylish mom on the run...

Go Red for Women

Today is Go Red for Women. Go Red For Women is a national movement founded by the American Heart Association to help you to fight back against the No. 1 killer of American women, heart disease. So to show support for the fight against heart disease in women, I am wearing red on National Wear Red Day.

As a Latina I am learning about heart health too. Did you know Hispanics are at high risk of death from heart disease — the nation’s No. 1 killer — due to factors such as diabetes, physical inactivity and obesity?

In fact, 20 percent of Hispanics in America have hypertension, 8.3 percent have heart disease, and 5.9 percent have coronary heart disease. Certain health conditions are genetically passed from one family member to another, but healthy habits can also be passed from generation to generation.

So, as part of today's blog, I wanted to share that with you and encourage you to know your history and take steps to adopt a heart-healthy lifestyle — to help ensure that your heritage continues.

ANYWAY, back to me! I do not want to be cliche by wearing head to toe red, but I did want to support this cause. So today I am wearing my new favorite (and only) red shoes and red handbag.

It's Friday so I am wearing a denim pencil skirt. I have NEVER worn jeans to work, so this is a stretch, we will see how it goes, but I think with the rest of the outfit, I can pull it off as business casual.

To pull this look off, I am wearing a herringbone v-neck sweater vest over a white cotton button down blouse.

The sleeves I wear rolled. I saw this in a catalog on cute ways to wear your sleeves rolled and I am trying it today. It a double roll in which the cuff sticks up and out of the roll.

Feeling Grey (silver)

It is very grey outside. A nice Southern wind has brought in a thick cloud of fog to South Texas and I am feeling a bit grey myself. I really long for clear COLD days, not this damp, not to warm and not so cold.

So today, I am going monochromatic. My outfit consists of black, white and grey, with no color other than what's on my fingers and toes.

The outfit really centers around my Hounds tooth bow-button cardigan (J Crew FA 08). The swearer hits at high hip, with 3/4 length sleeves and crew neck line. I wear it over a black hammered silk tank, and my grey wool flat front cuffed trousers (Ann Taylor).

The fun part, I think, are the accessories to this outfit. The shoes are a two-grey leather with bow detail from Etienne Aigner. I think they play up to the sweater with the colors and bow.

Then I try my best to accessorize with pearls and beads. I have been reading some great blogs about accessorizing and tried to emulate, but I really do not have any long beads or peals. I think longer beads would not add too much. But I am definitely thinking more about accessories.

Quick Change, Dressing on the Fly (Harlow Bouse)

This morning I really struggled. Partly because my double serge pencil skirt, I just got back from the tailor, still does not fit right, so then I have to completely change my outfit....not planned. So once again I am staring into my closet....the closet search.

It's a strange time. It's not spring, but it feels like it. It's not winter, but it's too warm to wear winter sweaters and coats. This morning was quite cool, with the caveat that the temp will raise at lease 30 degrees...layers layers layers.

So after staring into my closet for WAY to long, this is what I came up with.

Harlow Blouse in Fresh Guava

University Wide-led cuffed trousers in camel

JCrew Academy Jacket or my Cord blazer in dark chocolate.

Shoes are a buttery leather Mary-Jane in a Cognac color.

And I add my desert bauble bracelet and dinner ring for color.

So, on the fly before work, when my outfit changed....how did I do?

Warm and Cozy, Bohemian Chic

Due to a sick family, I am not at work today. I am home warm and cozy and having some coffee while everyone else naps.

This is a fun Bohemia tunic a friend gave me. She found it in a cute boho boutique and thought I would like it. It is very form fitting, but long and soft. Hooded, with a hand pouch. It is from a line called Next Era Couture. The material is super soft and fuzzy I looked and it is a acrylic, nylon and spandex blend.

I pair it with my favorite matchstick cords in acorn (J Crew) and bow flats in a light brown. I am also wearing a yellow tee underneath.

I need to go out and run some errands, so this outfit will see the light of day. Too casual?

The Linen Blazer

I always hear, the best way to "spiff up" jeans and a tee is to wear a fitted jacket.

Today I am home with the toddler, we are meeting other moms for a play date then, I am going to get my hair done! YEA!!! (but I digress..)

ANYWAY, so today is simple enough with my button fly boy leg jeans in dark wash, a cotton slub tee in a mustard orange yellow, and my go to shoes, python flats with jeweled front.

The main event is the Linen jacket. It actually arrived THIS wrinkled. It said it was suppose to be a worn look. It is very heavy for linen and very soft. I really like the shirred standing collar, when the jacket is closed it shows off my waist and the collar is nicely formed. Front patch pockets so I can fit the cell phone
